In a recent Official Document from the Presbyterian Education Authority Teachers Trade Union dated July 12th, 2020, Signed by its President, Afuh Stephens KWAH (on behalf of the Executive), the ongoing strike of the PEATTU teachers have been called off.

The primordial reason advanced by the body is the fear to entangle learners and parents in the financial brouhaha deviling their Association and her Employer, The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC. For stopping the strike that has been on for one week now though in low key, they say. We have listened to appeals from Parents, Students and Pupils who are innocent and should not become victims of circumstances either as sponsors or learners in their academic pursuit.

The PEA Teachers and other Workers recognize and acknowledge that their grievances are now being sufficiently handled at the level of State Stakeholders, being the Ministry of Secondary Education, the Ministry of Basic Education and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. That the Teachers/Workers remain conscientious, level-headed and have the students and pupils at heart.

The teachers had gone on a strike since July 6th protesting against their maltreatment by the church and financial misunderstandings. It is not clear if this call is indefinite given that their grievances according to them are yet to be fully met as the church had not said anything official.

Fears had arisen of their decision to go on an indefinite strike given that official examinations come up anytime soonest. This move therefore is going to give the students another opportunity to fine-tune their lessons before the exam dates.
